Agency Details:
Wallingford Boys & Girls Club
To enable all young people, especially those that need us most, to realize their full potential as responsible, productive, and caring citizens.
Description:
Wallingford Boys & Girls Club provides before and after-school care for youth in the Wallingford, Fremont, Lake City, and View Ridge neighborhoods, with members coming from all areas of North Seattle. We serve nearly 400 kids a day and have over 1,000 members. Our programs consist of three licensed child cares and a free youth development program that serves both kids and teens. We offer art classes, athletic programs, homework assistance, and service clubs. We provide a positive, safe, and fun learning environment for all children.
History:
Wallingford Boys & Girls Club has been around for more than 60 years. The Club was envisioned by a group of local businessmen who recognized the need for a safe place for young children to go afterschool, to keep them from being home alone and getting into trouble. From that basic idea, the Club has grown to be not only that place of refuge, but also a please where learning and creativity flourish. The Club, originally part of The Boys Clubs of America, began admitting girls in the 1970s. In 2007, the main club relocated back to its original site on 45th and Stone Way in Wallingford, where it currently serves more than 150 youth daily.
