Community for Youth - WA - Seattle
Logo

Community for Youth inspires and supports youth to identify and achieve their goals through mentoring, learning experiences, and participation in a powerful community.

Description:
Community for Youth programs transform high school students who are struggling - with school, with family, with their direction in life - into young adults with confidence, determination, and self-awareness. Supported by a community of adult mentors who are relentlessly committed to their success, teenagers learn to make thoughtful choices, fulfill their commitments, acknowledge their mistakes and account for their actions. By taking control of their lives, students realize they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Steps Ahead (program for 9th graders) and Steps Beyond (program for 10th-12th graders) operate at Cleveland High School, Rainier Beach High School, and Chief Sealth High School, and are the largest mentoring and youth development programs in the Seattle high school system. Our program runs parallel with the school year, beginning in the fall and ending in June.

History:
Community for Youth was founded in 1986. The program was expanded with the 1989 launch of the Steps Ahead mentor program at Seattle's Rainier Beach High School. The program expanded to Cleveland High in 1994 and Sealth in 2000 and now serves 170 youth each year.
