Position Summery

The Newsletter Editor is responsible for coordinating the writing and electronic publishing of our quarterly newsletter. Our e-newsletter generally has abridged versions of articles which are posted on our website, in full. The Newsletter Editor drives the writing of both the full and abridged versions of the articles. This will require working closely with the Marketing Lead and the Webmaster to ensure that the content matches our marketing strategy and priorities. The Newsletter Editor will share (volunteer) staff with the Web Content Lead to assist with writing and might also recruit additional writers, if needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage the development and electronic publishing of our quarterly newsletter . In some cases this will require the adaptation of existing text, and in others, developing it from scratch;
  2. Coordinate with Marketing Lead, Webmaster and Web Content Lead; and
  3. Develop a pool of writers which will be shared with the Web Content Lead
Please be able to commit a minimum average of 8 hours a month, although this is usually especially concentrated near the date of publication. This is a “virtual” team opportunity, which you may perform from your home or other location.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community. We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills.
