Seattle Audubon Nature Shop Volunteer Working to protect our Environment

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 12, 2009

Provide sales and merchandising assistance that provide essential net revenue for Seattle Audubon; registration assistance for Seattle Audubon Classes and Field Trips; clerical assistance to Seattle Audubon staff and programs; plus phone and walk-in assistance to Seattle Audubon members and the public regarding bird- and nature-related issues, Seattle Audubon policies and issues. Nature Shop staff are scheduled to be available to support Nature Shop volunteers during all hours of operation.

The highly successful Seattle Audubon Nature Shop is open Monday - Saturday 10-5. Volunteers work in pairs to assist in the Shop in 3.5-hour shifts and answer bird and birding related questions. Volunteers also sign people up for memberships. Friendly, fun, professional, well-informed atmosphere.

Each new volunteer is provided initial peer-to-peer training on basic procedures and the point-of-sale system. Subsequent training is also peer-to-peer by shadowing active Shop volunteers. Personalized one-on-one or small group training by Nature Shop staff is always available. Less experienced volunteers are paired with experienced volunteers.

Flexible scheduling: work every week or every month or serve on call as a substitute. This opportunity is an ideal way to get to know Seattle Audubon from the inside and learn about birds and their habitat. And it's a wonderful way to interact with Shop visitors, callers and emailers.

Knowledgeable, or willing to become knowledgeable about birds.

Patient, alert, poised and good with people; good phone manners, flexible; able to learn and keep current with changes in reference materials and Shop procedures. Computer literate.

Professional and comfortable with variety.

Willing to serve as a Seattle Audubon ambassador.

The minimum age for this opportunity is 18 years old.
