Send books to prisoners Working to enhance education

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 28, 2009

For the last 35 years we have been sending books to incarcerated individuals around the country. Help us by coming to a volunteer night and answering some requests, or wrap some packages, or shelve book donations. If you like us, you could also think about fundraising and book acquisition.

Being able to read is pretty essential. A familiarity with authors and subjects can be helpful. It also helps to be a little open-minded!
Volunteers under 18 should have written permission from their parents; under 16 might want to bring along an adult the first time.
Court-ordered community service people need to provide phone number, address, nature of the infraction, number of hours needed.

This opportunity is sponsored by: Books To Prisoners

We need volunteers who are free at these times

This volunteer opportunity is available to the following types of volunteers

This is our working location. It is in the University Christian Church. Important things to know about getting into the building: 1) If you arrive before 8pm, you can enter at the main door on 15th Ave NE. From there you can go up one flight of stairs or take the elevator (to level 2 even though we are located in room 301) and follow the signs to our room. 2) If you arrive after 8pm the main door will be locked and you will need to call us to let you in. The phone number is 206-731-9471. If we do not answer do not leave a message on this phone, call back again, as we do not check these messages often.
