Early Learning Educator Working to protect our Environment Working to enhance early learning

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 17, 2009

Do you like: Stories? Nature? Walks outside? Exploring the forest with youngsters? Then this is the position for you! We need assistance with our most popular program—Toddler Tales and Trails! As a leader of this program, you will read 1 or 2 nature-themed stories from our Natural History Library to groups of parents and children (ages 0-5), and follow up with a brief sensory exploration/activity in Seward Park. This is a great, flexible position for those who love kids and seek to inspire future generations of conservation-minded citizens!

This position allows for a lot of creativity and flexibility on your part. Some past examples of "sensory explorations" include: a walk to the lake shore to visit ducks and other birds; a walk into the old growth forest to touch and smell the trees; leaf rubbings; pine cone bird feeders; visiting with our education animals (tortoise and doves); bug hunts; and much more!

Hours: Alternating Wednesdays (10—11am) and alternating Saturdays (11am—12pm); other occasional hours available.

If you are interested in volunteering for this position, you must feel comfortable reading aloud, have patience and compassion, and successfully pass a background check (a routine procedure for anyone working with children).
