Are you the type of person that believes education can break down barriers, open up conversation, and prepare individuals to help others? Then becoming a Public Education Volunteer for YSPP is the opportunity for you! You will be trained with our curriculum, so that you can go out into the community and educate parents, youth, educators, and community members on how to recognize a youth at risk for suicide. They will understand the difference between stress and depression, learn the warning signs for suicidal behavior, and know the three helping steps: Show you Care, Ask the Question, and Get Help! This is a great opportunity to help build the safety net in all of our youth’s lives! • Contact PTA's, schools, civic organizations, to offer 30-60 minute presentations • Attend training on YSPP curriculum for presentations • Confirm scheduled presentations with contact • Facilitate presentations using YSPP curriculum and brochures • File report with Field Coordinator • Attend training/volunteer meetings on as needed basis (Locations vary) • Experience and confidence with public speaking • Excellent speaking and writing skills • Ability to work independently; self-starter • Effective problem solving skills • A sense of humor • Ability to respond in a timely and thoughtful way to requests for assistance • Skill in maintaining confidentiality • Comfort speaking on phone • Event Scheduling/Planning • Fundraising • Language/Translation (Helpful in some areas (Must be 18 or Older)

YSPP's office is located in the Green Lake neighborhood. From I-5 heading north, take the Ravenna Blvd exit (Exit 170) heading toward NE 65th St. Turn slight left onto NE Ravenna Blvd. and travel about a half a mile to 444 NE Ravenna Blvd. We are in an office building on the right side of the street. From I-5 heading south, take Exit 171 toward NE 71st St/ NE 65th St. Stay straight to go onto 6th Ave. NE. Turn right onto NE 71st St. and then left onto NE Ravenna Blvd. Make a u-turn at NE 68TH St. onto NE Ravenna Blvd. and travel about a tenth of a mile to reach 444 NE Ravenna Blvd.
