Garden with seniors in the Rainier Valley

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on August 31, 2009

Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation (a non-profit) operates The Brighton, a 124-unit independent living building for low-moderate income seniors and their families. We have 24 raised beds in our own beautiful p-patch-style garden. Our senior and disabled residents sign up to garden a patch for the season.
8/31/09 --Thanks to our spring volunteers for help with prep and planting, and to our summer volunteers for weeding, blackberry whacking, and general support in the garden. We are having a terrific harvest, and the garden is sooo beautiful!
AND we would love to add to our core of helpers -- people who can come for a few hours each week or each month, or as needed. Some gardeners need help to keep up with thinning, weeding, composting, blackberry control, and maybe putting in a winter crop, such as kale. Healthy greens are so expensive in the winter.
Would you like to be involved with our friendly community here at The Brighton?

No training is necessary. Individual/s must be patient, friendly, physically strong, honest and reliable. Although we prefer age 16+, a parent or guardian-youth team with a teen under 16 could be a good match. Some English is necessary. Tools and gloves are available on site.
