Victim Advocates provide one-on-one advocacy and crisis intervention to victims of crime and their loved ones. The volunteer victim advocate is responsible for responding to victim crisis calls and for providing one-on-one advocacy and crisis intervention. Advocates provide support to victims throughout the criminal justice process, advocate for victims within the criminal justice system, with employers, landlords and others, as needed. These volunteers assist victims with obtaining resources for basic needs. Volunteers for this position must attend a 30-hour victim advocate training. They must also complete a criminal background check and sign a confidentiality agreement. Victim Advocates are also required to attend quarterly volunteer meetings.
