Head Home a Hero: Tutor with Invest in Youth at Beacon Hill International Elementary School!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on August 13, 2009

Here's your opportunity to give back. For one hour, just once a week on the way home from work, you can go into nearby Seattle grade schools and tutor kids who need a little extra help with their studies.

Invest in Youth is looking for new tutors to devote one hour per week to one lucky student at one of Seattle’s local elementary schools in the 2009-2010 school year. Last fall fall, we successfully matched over 80 local elementary school students with Seattle-area investment professionals who gave them a little extra help with their studies each week. As we look to the 2009 school year, we find demand for tutors from this highly effective program continues to increase and we are looking for more Seattle-area professionals to help meet the needs of these enthusiastic and deserving young students!

Participating in Invest in Youth requires a tutoring commitment of one hour every week for the duration of the school year. You are paired with a student at the beginning of the year, and work with the same student for the entire year. The student's teacher conveys to each tutor what areas the student needs extra help in, and that is where your job starts.

In 2009, Invest in Youth will work with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at Lowell Elementary School, Daniel Bagley Elementary School, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School and Beacon Hill International School. Tutoring starts in late September and lasts the entire school year. Weekly sessions start at 3:45-3:50pm. Please see www.investinyouth.net for more information.

Basic literacy and math skills. Tutors work with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to complete homework assignments, improve their reading and writing skills and learn basic math facts.
