The Marketplace is the Wing Luke Asian Museum's gift store. We offer a wide selection of goods related to the Asian American culture and community for a variety of audiences. Acclaimed by the Seattle Times, Seattle Crosscut Magazine, Seattle Metropolitan Magazine as one of the best gift stores in the city, the Marketplace needs individuals who have a friendly and open disposition to help with the sales support. We need volunteers who are passionate about making connections with new people everyday. Marketplace volunteers will welcome patrons and visitors of the Wing Luke Asian Museum and provide general information about the Marketplace’s offering, as well as museum’s public services, events, exhibits and facilities. In addition, volunteers provide general information and directions to locations in the International District.
We're currently looking for volunteers who can make work at least one 4-hour shift a week or more on a regular basis with a commitment of six months, but are flexible depending on circumstances. Responsibilities will vary on volunteer's interest, abilities, and experience. Other volunteer opportunities in the museum are also available. Selling and/or sales support Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills Ability to deal cheerfully with large volumes of people during opening events, tours etc. Ability to work a dependable schedule, which may include evenings and weekends, depending on volunteer’s availability Ability to work independently or as a part of a team Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously while remaining organized and providing excellent customer service. Interest in and enthusiasm for the Museum and helping people Familiarity with the basic floor plan and services of the new Museum An understanding and respect for diverse lifestyles, cultures, religions and values and ability to interact with a variety of people Must attend volunteer orientation and on-site training sessions Washington State Patrol Background check will be performed and required Volunteers with responsibility for handling money have cash register experience Volunteers who display merchandise must have ability to climb stepladder and lift 30 lbs Volunteers who process merchandise must have ability to lift 30 lbs
