North Seattle Community College Upward Bound's FUSE Mentoring Program is looking for dedicated individuals to serve as mentors for high school students. Be a positive adult role model, a friend, and a source of information and guidance for our young students at this crucial time in their lives. Details: • Mentors must make a 6 month commitment to meeting in person with mentees at least twice per month, and contacting by email or social networking tool at least twice per month (as a part of our e-mentoring component). • NSCC Upward Bound serves students from Roosevelt High School, Franklin High School, and American Indian Heritage Middle College High School. • Upward Bound students are selected on the basis of desire to succeed, commitment to attending college after high school, and low-income and/or potential first-generation college background. We are looking for adults (21+) who...
- Place high value on education
- Are extremely reliable
- Enjoy spending time with youth (particularly high school students)
- Are respectful
- Are open to learning from people from different cultures
Previous experience as a mentor is great but not necessary!
In addition to monthly meetings with mentees, mentors must commit to a one time, 2 hour training meeting on a Saturday in January.
