Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 28, 2009

Communities in Schools of Seattle provides afterschool math enrichment programs to elementary students.

These students are significantly behind in fundamental math skills. Our Math All Stars program understands that children learn better when their having fun. Math is a subject that children and adults alike struggle with. Games are something that most everyone enjoys. So we decided to combine the two!

Through interactive math games we reinforce fundamental math skills: addition, subtraction, counting money, telling time, multiplication, etc. These games are directly correlated to Seattle Schools math curriculum, so they students receive academic reinforcement through play.

As a volunteer, you don't have to worry about how "good" you are at math. You will receive comprehensive training and on-going support. The games are EASY to learn, and some you probably already know!

Math All Stars is Monday - Thursday from 4:00 - 5:30. We ask volunteers to commit to one day a week for the duration of the school year.

If you are unable to commit weekly, volunteer with friends on a monthly basis, 4 or more people create a Math Team. These teams choose one day a month (example 2nd Thursday of the month) and commit to this date. Have Fun with friends and family, while simultaneously inspiring a child to learn math!

Please sign up for an orientation to learn more!!

Volunteers must be 16 years or older, attend an orientation and successfully pass a WA State background check, and attend math training. PRIOR to working with students.
