PEOPLE FOR PUGET SOUND Environmental Lobby Day Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Are you serious about saving Puget Sound? Join the organizing committee for Environmental Lobby Day. Help us host this activist event! Rein Attemann, the Field Director at People For Puget Sound, is populating his organizing committee for Lobby Day 2010, and he is looking for spirited activists to help him host this huge citizen lobbying event. Help him bring a large force of engaged citizens to the state capitol in Olympia. His attendance goal this year is 600 participants. Check out his various volunteer committee positions: Legislative Appointment Schedulers The scheduler is responsible for arranging and coordinating meetings with legislators. For Lobby Day, the scheduler will staff the Legislative Appointment room all day. This requires someone who is available during the almost every other day in the last couple weeks leading up to the event. Participate in phone banking for recruiting participants. Duration: December 2009/January 2010 and January 26th (day of lobby day) Co-Sponsorship Recruiter Identify and recruit organizations from 2007/2008/2009 Lobby Days to be co-sponsors of Citizen Lobby Day 2010. Help create a more vibrant Co-Sponsorship program with enticing carrots for potential Co-sponsors. Distribute publicity materials to groups on a timely manner (organizational newsletters have deadlines and timelines). The best groups to recruit would be those in key legislative districts that are important to the four priorities issues and People For Puget Sound’s legislative priorities. Ensure co-sponsors follow through with their commitments, especially the recruitment of attendees. Duration: ASAP November 09-Jan 26th (day of lobby day) Registration Coordinator This volunteer is responsible for handling consolidating all the registrations from on-line, mail in, and phone banking registrations and make follow up calls to registrants who had incomplete registration information. Send weekly, and at times, daily updated registration list to Legislative Appointment Schedulers, Transportation Coordinator and volunteer coordinators. Duration: December 2009/January 2010 and January 26th (day of lobby day) Registration Coordinator Assistants These volunteers will assist in making the registration packets, which are handed out the day of the event and will help with the set up of the Lobby Day Headquarters the day before the event. Duration: week before Lobby Day Transportation Coordinator Responsible for coordinating in District carpools for Lobby Day registrants, all logistics for the North Sound Bus, Seattle Bus, and Olympic Peninsula Bus. Procure breakfast food and drinks for bus riders. Work with Rein to arrange buses/mini bus for transportation. Duration: December 2009/January 2010 and January 26th (day of lobby day) Media Outreach Work with Mike Sato, Communications Director, to publicize Lobby Day throughout the Sound. Provide smaller community media outlets and publications (Whatcom Forum, Cascadia, Street Change etc) with press release or draft article. Post event details with on-line calendar of events sources. Utilize social media networks. Duration: December 2009/January 2010 and January 26th (day of lobby day) Civic Engagement Recruiters Help recruit lobby day attendees from strategic Legislative Districts so we have more representation from more districts. Make sure that our Outreach Posse has necessary flyers and promotional materials. Attend Legislative Workshop on Jan 9th. Duration: November- January 26th Food Procurement Coordinator Procure food for breakfast and lunch and drinks and snacks. Make arrangements for amount, costs, and schedule pickups. Duration: November, December 2009, January 2010 and January 26th (day of lobby day) Legislative Gifts Coordinator Every year, constituents bring a small token of appreciation/gift their legislator that is pertinent to any or all of the environmental priorities. This year our priorities include Jobs for Clean Water, Baby Bottle Bill, and Budget for natural resource agencies and programs. Responsible for procuring decided upon gift items and packaging them for delivery on lobby Day. Duration: November 09- January 26. On Campus Presence Coordinator Responsible for organizing logistics for Environmental Lobby Day to have a prominent presence on the capitol campus with a 10 x 10 tent, beverages, literature, balloons, music, so attendees have an opportunity to check in and so that everyone else at the capitol sees that it is Environmental Lobby Day. Duration: November 09- January 26. Olympic Peninsula Coordinators Coordinate with Al Bergstein, Board member at People For Puget Sound to publicize Lobby Day and to recruit Peninsula residents to attend Lobby Day. Identify, pursue, and engaged new Co-Sponsors for Lobby Day. Target communities include but are not limited to Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend, Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Bainbridge, and Shelton. Coordinate with Bus Transportation Coordinator to organize transportation for Peninsula Lobby Day attendees. Duration: November 09- January 26. Day of Event and Volunteer Coordinator (Mary Beth Dols and Brendan Mackinson) This position will manage the procurement of all food donations, arrange for food purchases, recruit and manage staff and volunteers for the kitchen on Lobby Day and will help with the set up of the Lobby Day Headquarters the day before the event. Misc. Tasks: • Update Legislative Bios that includes incumbents voting record on 2007 and 2008 and 2009 environmental priorities (November and December 2009) • Update Matrix merge document with Legislator’s contact information (December 2009) • Compare Lobby Day 2006-2009 attendee lists to find which Legislative Districts need more recruitment within Puget Sound region and for the priorities. Lobby Day will be held in Olympia on January 26, 2010. Much of this organizing work may be done offsite. We will have bi-weekly meetings in the People For Puget Sound offices in downtown Seattle - Pioneer Square.

If you're coming on I-5, you will want the Seneca or James street exit, then you'll want to head west/downhill to First Ave. If you came from James, head north/right on First Ave. If you came from Seneca, head south/left on First Ave. Parking is usually best found under the Alaskan Way Viaduct (99 on the map above), which is directly behind/west of our building. Our building is the Maritime Building, is light blue, and takes up the entire block between Marion and Madison. Come in the entrance with the planters on either side, go to the 5th floor and take a right out of the elevator. Keep making rights until you hit the end of the hallway and you'll see us.
