Description: Rite of Passage Journeys, established in 1968, fosters self-discovery, community, and connection with the natural world, through nature-based programs designed to help individuals through life transitions. Programs are designed for children, teens, and adults. Rite of Passage Journeys provides 1-3 week wilderness trips throughout the summer. The organization also does community and school education about healthy rites of passage, both training organizations to create them and teaching about their cross-cultural significance. This internship will be an opportunity to learn about fundraising and grant-writing by working with a small, dynamic nonprofit. Start date: Fundraising Internship: start and end dates flexible; intern will commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week of work, for a minimum of 10 weeks. Depending on academic needs and life circumstances, time commitment can be adapted. Duties (as time allows): -Research philanthropic foundations and grant programs that offer promising grants. -Gather records of grants our organization has previously submitted. -Sort and organize grant files and information into a comprehensive system. -Research businesses with established in-kind (i.e. goods, not money) donation programs. -Research businesses who offer services and goods similar to those that our organization already uses. -Research the procedures for soliciting in-kind donations, document these procedures, and solicit donations. -Contact donors to better understand the circumstances that lead them to donate. -Research businesses with philanthropic programs and businesses with sympathetic missions. -Organize information collected into useful documents. Requirements: -Must be 18 -Must have basic computer proficiency: internet use, word processing, and spreadsheet programs are required -Must have excellent writing and grammar skills -Must have strong telephone and interpersonal communication skills -Must be self-motivated and organized -Must be open to feedback and eager to learn and grow Preferred skills and abilities -Experience working with a Macintosh platform computer -Background in Fundraising, Nonprofit management, or Administration -Familiarity with database programs Compensation: -Credit through your university (if applicable) -Opportunity to work behind the scenes of a small, dynamic nonprofit -Intentional mentorship and professional networking opportunities with members of our organization and broader community (in fields including therapy, teaching, outdoor education, and more) -Opportunities to participate in trainings about ritual and wilderness-based rites of passage led by our unique and innovative organization with over 40 years of experience leading wilderness-based rites of passage -Individual attention and feedback, with opportunities for personal and professional development -This Fundraising Internship is an unpaid internship.
