Is affordable health insurance important to you? Then volunteer with the SHIBA HelpLine and help your community stay healthy and informed! RSVP Partner Organization

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 19, 2009

We are looking for volunteers to inform their community about health insurance and affordable health care. Our volunteer counselors provide assistance over the phone, in person, or through outreach sites and public speaking events, working to educate King County residents about private insurance, public programs, and other affordable health care options.

Retired and active professionals, college students interested in health care careers, and bilingual/bicultural volunteers are all encouraged to apply.

Call the local King County SHIBA HelpLine office today for more information or a volunteer application: (206) 268-6715. Flexible opportunities are available throughout King County.

The Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) HelpLine provides free, unbiased information about health care coverage and access to help improve the lives of all Washington state residents. We cultivate community commitment through partnership, service and volunteering.

Extensive training is provided through the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. New volunteers are paired with experienced mentors until comfortable counseling on their own. Required monthly update meetings help volunteers stay up-to-date and build relationships with fellow volunteers.

This is a flexible volunteer opportunity that requires dependable, caring people who are able to provide excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality at all times. Previous health care knowledge and experience is not necessary, but a willingness to learn and a passion for helping people are required.
