Respond to King County's Human Services Needs! Volunteer opportunity relating to Homelessness Basic Needs

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 3, 2009

Phone Interventionist Volunteers answer calls from residents of Seattle and King County. Callers are often people who are dealing with an emotional crisis, such as relationship problems. They might have tangible needs, such a homelessness or hunger. They might be dealing with a mental illness, or experiencing thoughts of suicide. Volunteers are assisted and guided by Mental Health Professionals to provide appropriate services to callers.

Successful volunteers are people who enjoy learning, listening and being part of a team. They are flexible and value diversity. Lastly, they are able to commit to a year of service, volunteering about 4.5 hours per week.

All volunteers receive Crisis Clinic's well-know and well-respected training before responding to callers. The training is interactive and designed for adult learners. Volunteers come from nearly every background and had different levels of expertise before they came to Crisis Clinic. Volunteers need to have a pleasing voice and be comfortable talking with people that are different than themselves. Volunteers may not have certain types of convictions on their records. They must be over the age of 21.

Teen Link - the ultimate learning experience!
I've been volunteering at the Crisis Clinic (and more specifically, Teen Link) as a phone worker. I've gained so much insight regarding the way we tick. I've learned how to look at a tough conflict objectively and with empathy.. which is a lot harder when you're doing it over the phone.
