What Is The Weekend?
The Guiding Lights Weekend is An Experiential Conference On the Art of Mentoring — a one-of-a-kind event where you’ll learn creative, concrete ways to motivate, coach and inspire.

Friday, January 26, Eric Liu moderates a playful, provocative luncheon panel on “How to Cultivate Imagination” co-presented with Lincoln Center Institute, with Bonnie Dunbar, director of the Museum of Flight and former NASA astronaut; Tod Machover, co-director of the MIT Media Lab, Rosamund Zander, author of the bestseller The Art of Possibility; and Charles Johnson, National Book Award-winning novelist. This event is FREE;
registration is required.

Saturday, January 27, 42 celebrated mentors and teachers from many different walks lead transformative, hands-on workshops. Topics range from “Moving Forward with Courage and Conviction” to “Teambuilding Through Culinary Creation” and "Improvisation and the Art of Surprise" to “When Your Game Plan Fails.” Register by Dec. 15 and save $50.

Sunday, January 28, Governor Christine Gregoire and KCTS host Enrique Cerna lead a festive public ceremony to honor regional Outstanding Mentor of the Year nominees. The day begins with trainings by the Corporation for National and Community Service: Tools for Orienting and Training Adults who Mentor Youth; Recruitment Strategies: Finding and Keeping the Right Volunteers to Serve as Mentors; Building Capacity: Resources for Mentoring Programs. The day ends as the Center House fills with the buzz of dozens of simultaneous Talking Circles! These events are FREE;
registration required for morning mentoring trainings.

The Guiding Lights Weekend is a joint production of The Guiding Lights Network, Seattle International Children's Festival and Seattle Center Fund.
