The community thrift shops help fill the need for access to reasonably priced clothing and household goods; and because they are operated by volunteers, the resources they develop are used to support unmet community needs such as: supporting local food pantries, making emergency loans, providing emergency clothing/other food assistance, supporting needy families.
This volunteer could help sort through donated items to determine their usability, help with cash register sales, and/or also help maintain cleanliness of facilities.
