Become A Volunteer Ombudsman

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 9, 2009

The Maine Long Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for consumers of long term care services in Maine. An Ombudsman is a specially trained advocate who is given authority under federal and Maine law to investigate and resolve complaints made by, or on behalf of, long-term care consumers.

Our volunteers make visits to long term care facilities throughout Maine, listen to residents' concerns and provide a voice for those who may need someone to speak for them. You can be that voice, the friendly visitor and the listening ear who will speak up for residents' rights. If you have the heart of an advocate, love visiting and speaking with the elderly, we would love to hear from you.

We ask that all volunteers make a one year commitment to the program....Attend a one day training session...Are able to visit their facility at least two times each month...are available to attend quarterly regional meetings and trainings with other Volunteer Ombudsmen.
