VT Engage Logo

Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

Campuscore

Agency Details:

Campuscore
Logo

Campuscore, a division of The Heart of VA, will promote public service projects as an outreach to high school and college campuses geared to inspire you leaders to emerge beyond complacency and become self-empowered active members of their community. Campuscore specifically provides mental health awareness and education to students. We believe with better education and acceptance of mental illness, students will more likely seek/suggest treatment when needed.

Description:
Mental illness is a treatable disease, yet in a society that tolerates prejudice and discrimination against persons living with mental illness, treatment is often not sought.

The Heart of Virginia Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation formed in response to the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007. The Heart of Virginia Foundation offers charitable and educational opportunities to promote emotional well-being through the arts and to fight the stigma of mental illness.

Our Initial Goals include on-going development of The Center for Integrated Arts and implementing Neighborcore and Campuscore.

Our Center for Integrated Arts consists of a combination of traditional fine and performing arts, as well as, healing and meditative art. The idea is to create a multi use space that can be used to develop community programs as a means of wellness and prevention to promote healthy emotional and psychological states and to expand our understanding of the cultural and human condition in a world that is quickly out pacing itself.

The mission of the Center for Integrated Arts is to advance public awareness and increase opportunities for our community to experience the wellness and healing benefits of expressive arts and therapies. Group and Individual Programs will be person-centered and accommodate special needs. The center may incorporate and integrate existing programs and organizations that are in alignment with or mission, as well as, offer new programs that will allow for organic growth a greater understanding of sustainable living in the 21st century and beyond. Opportunities will include, art and music therapies, fine arts education and instruction, performing arts, media arts, healing arts, physical arts, meditative arts, drama, dance, live performances, exhibits, support groups, mentoring programs and various other community activities.
