Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis
The mission of the Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis is to offer safety and alternatives to violence to women and children, to validate their worth by promoting a philosophy which empowers women and children to take control of their lives by making their own choices and decisions without the fear of abuse.
Description:
Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis provides services to survivors of domestic violence and their dependent children. Through our programs clients are provided with the opportunity of emergency shelter as well as support them through their current crisis, aiding them with advocacy through the court procedures, individualized counseling, group counseling, and referrals to therapy for trauma mental health or substance abuse issues. Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis also offers a Transitional Living Program where clients subsequently have shelter support for up to two years, there are minimal program fees associated with the Transitional Living Program.
History:
Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis began in 1977 as the Battered Women's Task Force, and opened it's first shelter in 1980. At that time, the agency changed it's name to acknowledge it's shift to a service agency. In 1992, the agency expanded to offer longer term transitional living program services for families. Today's Chrysalis has 10 paid staff and is supported by certified volunteers.
