The mission of Women and Families Center expresses a commitment to eliminating injustice and to improving the quality of life for women and families, through services that foster empowerment and independence. Our guiding vision: To support diversity and the elimination of racism and sexism. To be an agent for positive social change. To promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.

Description:
Women and Families Center (WFC) began its history in 1889, and became incorporated as the Young Women's Christian Association of Meriden in 1895. Serving Meriden and a small number of surrounding communities, the YWCA provided daycare for preschoolers and a variety of recreational and social activities for women and children. Today, Women and Families Center is a multi-faceted human service agency serving Middlesex County, Meriden, Wallingford, Cheshire, and the Greater New Haven Area. The Center provides a variety of services designed to improve the quality of life for women and families. Programs include AmeriCorps, School-Readiness for preschoolers, Youth Outreach and Drop-In Centers, Employment and Training, Sexual Assault Crisis Services, and Prevention Education. The services of the Center are available to all individuals regardless of income, at no-cost or sliding scale rates. Consequently, many of our clients are from low-income or lower-middle income families.
