The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine is partnering with the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad this winter to perform The Polar Express! Families will ride the train to the North Pole, visit with Santa Claus, and hear the beloved children's tale while sipping on hot cocoa and munching on treats. Last year over 11,000 people rode the Polar Express and we need volunteers to make this happen! The Polar Express is looking for tons of folks to help with different aspects of this amazing production. Please note that these are volunteer positions, but names will be acknowledged and you WILL have fun! 'Tis the season to tell the stories that bring families together. Give back to your community by helping us all believe in the magic of Christmas. Pajama Actors: Do you have a flair for the dramatic? We need teams of actors to tell the story of what happened to them on the Polar Express. The actors will be split into pairs of older (age 12 to adult) and younger (age 8 to 12). Actors will be expected to complete 10 hours of rehearsal time (5 rehearsals) before November 22 and spend 10 days on the train. Actors will be divided up into color block performance schedules between November 27th and December 23rd. Santa Claus: No trip to the North Pole is complete without a visit from Santa, and we need a few adult males to help make him come to life. These jolly fellows will help distribute the first gift of Christmas and pose with children for photos at the end of the ride. The Polar Express needs two Santas per day! Elves: Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the help of Santa’s Elves! Our elves will help Santa with his work just like the ones at the real North Pole! Hot Cocoa Chefs: Are you a natural in the kitchen, or on the dance floor? Our chefs will help out making hot cocoa, packaging cookies and dancing through the cars distributing them to passengers. Caroling Groups: Do you have a Caroling Group? Does your school band like to play Christmas Carols? Come perform at the Ocean Gateway and help us bring Christmas Cheer to children as they wait in line for their chance to sit with Santa!
Training requirements depend on volunteer roles, but there will be a training and orientation for each job. This opportunity is sponsored by: Children's Museum & Theatre Of Maine
