9/11 Week Of Service In Portland
RSS XML FeedBackground Active Sep 1, 2009 to Sep 13, 2009

Hour Exchange Portland and United Way of Greater Portland have come together to create a week of service opportunities in Portland and a Clean-Up Day for Deering Oaks Park.   President Obama has recognized September 11, 2009 as a national day of service and remembrance.  We are calling on you to serve and to remember the importance of being a healthy, strong and united community.

Hour Exchange Portland has coordinated with serveral local non-profits to determine their needs throughout the week.  Join us as we assist agencies such as Portland Trail Association, Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services, Preble Street and many more.  Click here for dates, times, activities and locations!  If you are interested in serving at one of these projects contact Marena Blanchard at marena@hourexchangeportland.org or 207-874-9868.

We will be ending our week of service with a Deering Oaks Park Clean-Up and Remembrance Ceremony on Friday September 11 from 11:00am-4:00pm at Deering Oaks Park.  Volunteers will be cleaning up the park and painting trash cans that will later be distributed throughout the city of Portland.  Help us revive the places that keep our community together!  For more information click here.

If you are an individual or business looking for an alternative way to serve, click here to discover the diverse ways you can pay respects to our troops.  If you find an activity you would like to participate in e-mail Karen Stephenson at kstephenson@unitedwaygp.org for information on how to get started!

Give whatever time you can to serve and remember and show everyone how you LIVE UNITED!

GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER.

LIVE UNITED

Note: If you plan to volunteer all day on Friday September 11,  bring a snack or lunch!
