Our purpose is to assist people in Warren County who need food, clothing or household furnishings at no cost. The benefit of our program is to operate the Food Pantry for Warren County residents.

Description:
This is an all volunteer organization. We collect and distribute clothing and household items at no charge to residents of Warren County. They do not need a referral. Our food pantry helps people who are referred to us by Warren County Human Services personnel, pastors, Red Rock Community Action and other organizations. Families are given a seven-day supply of food. Volunteers sort items that are donated and put them in their proper place. Food pantry workers see that an adequate supply of food is on hand at all times and distributes food to people who come for help.

History:
Helping Hand opened in 1982 and was started by the Indianola Ministerial Association. It is governed by a board of directors and has a president, secretary, treasurer and executive director. United Way provides money for the food pantry as well as community groups, churches and individuals. Churches, school classes, individuals, and many other groups assist by having food drives for the food pantry. We are also able to purchase food from the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines.
