The Food Bank of Iowa is a private, non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger and reduce food waste. Donations come from food industry donors, special events and federal government commodity programs.

Description:
With its 53,000 sq.ft. facility, the Food Bank of Iowa solicits, warehouses, and distributes grocery products through a network of 285 non-profit food providing organizations in 42 counties. As a member of Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest-the Nation's Food Bank Network), the Food Bank of Iowa benefits from national promotions and fundraising campaigns for organizations such as Wal-Mart, Kraft, Barilla, General Mills, etc. Providing hunger education and working with government at all levels to end hunger in the United States is also a priority of the Food Bank of Iowa.

History:
Founded in 1982, The Food Bank of Iowa is a member of Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank Network). In FYE 6/30/08, the Food Bank of Iowa distributed 5,032,270 pounds of donated food to hungry Iowans. Through our network of member agencies, the Food Bank of Iowa strives to meet the food assistance needs of a diverse population, including children, seniors, and the working poor.
