 The VNS Storybook Project provides female inmates at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women at Mitchellville, and male inmates at the Iowa Correctional Release Center and Newton Correctional Facility in Newton the opportunity to connect with their children through reading. Volunteers visit inmates to assist them in choosing and recording a book onto CD that is then mailed to the inmates child. The goal is to maintain and strengthen the parent/child bonds during separation. This Day of Caring Project can include a book drive collecting new books to be used in the Storybook Project. Volunteers can organize and run a new book drive for the Storybook Project. This opportunity is sponsored by: Visiting Nurse Services
