Agency Details:
Adult Day Stay - Denton
To offer respite and support to family caregivers by providing daytime healthcare and social activities to incapacitated and/or disabled adults in Denton County.
Description:
Caring for an adult with physical and/or mental disabilities is a daunting task for any caregiver. Even the most experienced caregiver working in a nursing home will tell you that they sometimes reach a point of burn out working 8 hours a day. Consider the single mother of a disabled adult child. She has to bathe, dress, and feed her child every day of that child’s life and also, attempt to bring some social interaction into that child’s life. Then there is a family comprised of husband, wife, and school age children who have recently had an elderly disoriented parent move in with them. Both husband and wife work outside the home and the children go to school during the day. The elderly parent remains at home alone with no social interaction, perhaps unable to take his/her medicine at the prescribed times, unable to find the food that the adult children left for him/her, and possibly wandering out of the house and getting lost. The adult children worry while at work if the elderly parent is alright and many times miss work or have to quit work in order to care for the elderly parent. This same scenario applies to an elderly couple where one of the couple suffers from dementia or early Alzheimer’s. The burden of full-time care-giving falls on the lucid spouse whose stress level increases and his/her own health begins to suffer. This is a family crisis that we hear on a regular basis from clients looking for an alternative to costly nursing homes or hired help. Adult Day Stay is a 501c(3) non-profit charitable organization designed to offer support and relief to family caregivers by providing day activity programming and health services to functionally impaired adults 18 years of age and older in Denton County. The center is staffed by an L.V.N. who is able to do medical assessments as needed, administer any physician ordered treatment or medication, including injections. Personal care and toileting needs are provided by experienced, caring, and dedicated staff. During their stay at the agency, clients have the opportunity to make new friends, participate in meaningful activities organized by our Certified Activities Director, and be regarded as individuals understanding that they continue to be a vital part of the community in which they live. The family members can preserve their daily routine of maintaining or seeking gainful employment, pursuing educational opportunities, taking care of family business, socializing or just resting and recuperating. In this way, the family unit can remain intact and costly premature institutionalization is prevented. Adult Day Stay is located at 4845 S. I-35 E., Suite 100 in Denton, Texas and is open to the public from 7:30am until 5:30pm Monday through Friday. These hours are designed to allow families to drop off their loved ones on their way to work and be able to pick them up on the way home. Our fee for service that includes a nutritious hot meal at noon and a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack is $44/day, which is a bargain in today’s healthcare market. Low-income clients who qualify for Medicaid are enrolled through the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities at no out of pocket cost and receive the same quality services as the private pay clients.
History:
Adult Day Stay was founded by a group of concerned Denton County citizens who saw the need for such a facility in Denton County. The organization began its operations in 1995 as Adult Day Care of North Texas at 2400 W. University and after 3 years of quality service provision, moved to a quiet, residential setting at 3809 Camelot on the north side of town. The Center operated at this location until it was no longer adequate for the number of clients attending and their functional limitations. In February of 2004, the organization moved to 2109 W. University Drive and also changed its name to Day Stay for Adults, a name that is more descriptive and more appealing to adults. In March of 2009, the organization moved again to 4845 S. I-35 E. and is doing business as Adult Day Stay Adult Day Stay - Denton and Adult Day Stay - Lewisville are the only State licensed day activity and health services facilities in Denton County providing a cost-effective alternative to institutionalized care. The services Day Stay provides were designed to offer support and relief to family caregivers by providing day activity programming and health services to functionally impaired adults 18 years of age and older in Denton County. Adult Day Stay encourages and seeks admission for clients of all ages, ethnic background, and geographic location.
