Family Resource Center Of North Texas
Logo

The Family Resource Center's mission is to strengthen and support families through education. This is done through prenatal and parenting classes, information & referral, child car seat safety instruction and child safety presentations.

Description:
Family Resource Center of North Texas provides innovative family life education programs that encourage parent involvement in every aspect of their child's life. Prenatal and new parents programs provide nutrition and health information to pregnant moms and coping skills to new parents to prevent tragedies such as shaken baby syndrome and other acts of child abuse and neglect. Parenting classes enhance parents' abilities to be supportive and nurturing through skills development and promote positive parenting by helping parents build and strengthen a support network.

For Kids Sake focuses on issues such as understanding the effects of divorce on children, gaining insight into children's perceptions of divorce, talking to children about family changes, how to avoid placing children in the middle of parental issues, and maintaining a meaningful and loving relationship with children.

FRCNT's child car passenger safety program provides child car seats to families who cannot afford to purchase one, and instructions in their proper installation.

Additional programs strive to reduce substance abuse, education families about the issues and concerns of aging parents and family members.

Families learn how to access and use community resources through FRCNT's Information & Referral Service.

History:
The Family Resource Center of North Texas opened its doors in the current location in 1999 as the Denton Family Resource Center. An outcome of the Vision Denton Project, FRCNT began with a very small staff, little supplies, and only a few programs. Today, FRCNT provides support for families through programs, information & referral, community outreach, presentations at schools and universities, and health fairs.
