The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description:
The Salvation Army is motivated by the love for God and a concern for the needs of all humanity, especially to residents in the southern half of Elkhart County. This motivation is expressed in the work of The Salvation Army. Our purpose is to preach the gospel, teach Christian truths, provide basic human necessities and promote spiritual, moral and physical well-being. The Salvation Army of Goshen provides: weekly character building programs for children, senior citizen programs, weekly women’s programs, monthly men’s programs, church services, financial assistance in social services, quarterly visitation of nursing homes, camping opportunities for children in the Summer and pastoral counseling.
History:
The Salvation Army has been serving in Goshen since 1889, a mere nine years after its formal arrival to the United States in 1880. For over one hundred years, The Salvation Army of Goshen has served thousands of persons in need in Goshen, New Paris, Millersburg, Nappanee, and Wakarusa. We serve in part by offering stability through targeted financial assistance. A huge key to our service is our ability to meet human needs without having to adhere to strict income guidelines.
