The Agency provides needs and services to all working people, specifically those in the service and industrial areas in of Elkhart County.

Description:
The Agency has been in business since 1980 and in June 2009 changed their name to Harvest Basket for Community Services (formerly the United Labor Agency for Community Services. The board of Directors felt the Agency needed to redefine what they specifically do for working people in Elkhart County.
The Harvest Basket Food Program is designed for those 60 yrs and over, those on social security disabled, or someone that has a serious illness or injury. The program is a supplemental food program, which helps those on fixed incomes to stretch their dollars for other life needs, i.e. prescriptions,utilities, gas for their vehicle. The program has always been a "client choice" for foods they obtain every Tuesday. The program has a yearly $7 fee and a user fee of $1 is paid each time the client visits the program which is every Tuesday morning from 9-11a . The program is run by over 30 volunteers. Clients also may participate in the bi-annual wellness screening provided by EGH, hearing screenings by Family Hearing Center, bi-monthly foot clinic by the Elkhart Health Departmentl, yearly flu shots. The agency works with area supermarkets for the bread items it distributes. All surplus breads are given to 9 other food pantries each week.
The Health Equipment Loan Program provides a short term loan of walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, commodes, tub and shower seats for 30 days.
The legal clinic is provided on the 2nd Tues from 2-5p at LaCasa 204 Cottage Ave in Goshen. The attorney is bilingual. The 4th Tuesday is 2-5p in Elkhart at 3322 Middlebury St (far North door).

History:
The Agency was incorporated in l980 as a Labor Agency and was the only one in the State of Indiana. There are 29 others throughout the United States to date. The Board of Directors redefined what the agency does by changing the name to the Harvest Basket for Commuity Services in June 2009. The agency continues to serve all working people through it's Community Services programs. The Agency is now located on the north campus of Crossroads Community Church 3322 Middlebury St in Elkhart, IN. at the far north door. The Harvest Basket Food Program is the largest and longest standing service along with the health equipment loan program. The free legal clinic is an initial meeting with an attorney and has been in existence for over 10 years.
