The Council on Aging is committed to enhancing the quality of life and dignity for older adults in Elkhart County by supporting them and their families through direct services, service referrals, choices, and guidance for smooth transitions associated with aging.

Description:
Our focus has been on those services that are essential to seniors who wish to remain living independently in their own homes. For many of our clients, a supervised setting such as a nursing home or an independent living facility would be their only option were it not for the services provided by the Council on Aging of Elkhart County. Over the years, services provided by the agency have steadily grown as the population of seniors has increased.

History:
Founded in the early sixties as the County Council on the Aged, the Council has grown to become the most comprehensive senior service agency in Elkhart County. Since its’ beginning, the Council on Aging of Elkhart County has been a community leader in helping older adults who need assistance to maintain independence, mobility, and dignity. At that time, the Council on Aging was only able to help direct seniors to other community resources that offered services to address their needs. The agency was, at that time, helpless to offer any direct services to the elderly, even if no other agency offered those needed services. However, with devotion and the desire to serve seniors, progress did come and eventually the following services were added:Transportation, In-Home Services and Personal Support Services.
