Agency Details:
Adelante After School At Manhattan Presbyterian Church
The Mission of the Adelante After School Ministry is to offer a safe and enriching environment for neighborhood elementary school children during the after school hours.
Description:
THE NEED: Unsupervised youth are at greater risk of involvement in crime, drug abuse and other destructive behaviors during the after-school hours. Quality after-school programs provide a safe alternative for children and produce life-changing, lasting benefits, including healthier lifestyles, improved social skills and enhanced academic performance. The after school program provided by El Paso Parks and Recreation is full with a waiting list. THE OPPORTUNITY: Manhattan Church sits at the corner of Grant and North Piedras, across the parking lot from Houston Elementary. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 5:30, we offer tutoring, literacy enrichment, games, art, crafts, music and computer education to elementary children. No fees are charged. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! Please call us. You can make a difference in the lives of these children.
History:
Adelante After School was opened in February, 2007. Manhattan Presbyterian Church had successfully operated an after school program several years before. Manhattan Church was organized in 1921 and has a long history of outreach and ministry to the community.
