AVANCE prepares children for success by educating parents to be their children's first and most enduring teachers.
History:
AVANCE-El Paso began at Burleson Elementary School in 1997. Now at 15 sites throughout El Paso County. AVANCE parents and their children birth-4 years old come to a school site together for 1-4 days per week over nine months. AVANCE parents read books to their children beginning when they are babies and at least 3-5 times weekly; make toys for their children out of simple household objects and use everyday items to teach children through play; meet the four basic needs of all children; volunteer in the schools and community 3-5 hours monthly; enroll in ESL and GED classes 15 hours per week or more to continue their own education and to prepare for college or work.
