Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Carl was a 17 year old boy who came to PUENTES LGBT Resources because he needed our help in coming out to his mom. You see, Carl was born biologically a female but in his adolescence he realized that he was different from the other girls. He didn't like to wear dresses or have long hair. He wanted to wear jeans and tshirts and play with the other boys. When it came time to talk to Carl's mom who was from Mexico, I explained to her in Spanish Carl's true identity. Carl's mom didn't take it well and took Carl away to Denver. Fortunately, I was able to get him in contact with a transgender youth group in Denver. Carl is doing fine and back in school.
This is just one of our many stories that we have gained from our work with LGBTQ youth in public schools or foster care. If you are passionate about educating the public about the challenges LGBTQ youth face and helping families understand, support and love their LGBTQ youth, then PUENTES would like to speak to you about a volunteer opportunity.

All volunteers must pass a security background check and complete a 2-hour orientation on LGBTQ youth.
