Description:
The Red Cross is supported by the voluntary contributions of individuals, organization, foundations and corporations; federated fundraising through United Ways or Combined Federal Campaigns. Chapter programs include: Disaster Services- Planning and preparation for, immediate response to, recovery from and mitigation of recurring and non-recurring natural disasters and catastrophic disasters whether natural or man-made Emergency Services- Armed Forces Emergency Services trained caseworkers provided emergency communication, counseling, and information and referral to members for the U.S. Armed Forces in the Chapter jurisdiction. Preparedness Health and Safety: CPR/First Aid Training, Aquatics training, Babysitting, Family Caregiving, Safety Solutions, Lifeline, AED marketing and training. Youth Services- Age appropriate training in first aid, CPR, water safety, disaster preparedness and response is taught in schools. Blood Services- Assists in donor recruitment and education, site selection, registration and canteen support.
History:
The Howard Tipton Chapter was chartered in 1917 to provide Red Cross services to the people of Howard and Tipton Counties in Indiana. The Chapter is governed by a local Board of Directors, elected by the members of the Red Cross who live in its jurisdiction. In 2006 the chapter assumed custodial responsibility for the delivery unit in Wabash County, Indiana.
