History:
In 1947 Carver Community Center was founded by the Rev. Henry A. Perry, Sr. while working as the principal of Douglass School and serving in the pastorate at Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Rev. Perry was known for doing the best he could on behalf of the youth as well as the community. He developed an action plan, planted a garden, and waited on God. Rev. Perry also contacted Dr. George Washington Carver to request consent to name the building in his honor. Dr. Carver responded favorably, hence the name: Carver Community Center. Since Carver Center was established, youth programs and educational opportunities have been linked to the success of Carver’s history. After celebrating its 60th anniversary in March 2007, Carver Community Center, Inc. is proud to have the opportunities to continue perpetuating Rev. Perry’s vision of collaborating with community organizations to help make dreams come true for students of all ethnic backgrounds.
