Camp Fire USA Inland Northwest Council
Camp Fire USA builds caring, confident youth and future leaders.
Description:
As the needs of youth, families and the community have changed, Camp Fire USA has adapted to meet those needs. Each year, our Council provided structured, outcome-rich youth development programs for over 14,000 young people ages 3 through 18, and over 2,000 adults. Our programs help children and youth realize their full potential as they become more skilled at planning activities, making decisions, solving problems and taking responsibility for their actions. As a result, they grow to become responsible citizens concerned about the communities in which they live. Camp Fire USA programs are provided through 5 delivery systems: Club, Camping, Self-Reliance, Teens In Action, and School-Aged Child Care.
History:
Camp Fire has been serving the Inland Northwest since 1914. Through name changes from Camp Fire Girls to Camp Fire, Inc. to Camp Fire Boys and Girls, and now to Camp Fire USA, we have had the same commitment to providing quality programs from children in the Inland Northwest. Camp Fire was originally founded as the first non-secretarian, interracial organization for girls in the United States in 1910. However, since integration of boys in 1975, Camp Fire has been a co-educational organization. As the first nonsectarian, interracial organization for girls in the United States, Camp Fire USA takes pride in its long-standing commitment to providing fun programs and services to all children and families in America. We are inclusive, open to every person in the communities we serve, welcoming children, youth and adults regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation or other aspect of diversity. Camp Fire USA's programs are designed and implemented to reduce sex-role, racial and cultural stereotypes and to foster positive intercultural relationships.

The local Council supports clubs in 18 1/2 counties in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. We volunteered to help them close up their summer camp, "Camp Sweyolakan" for the winter. It is a coed camp for grades one throught twelve (high school) located on Lake Coeur d'Alene in North Idaho. Open to all kids. It was hard work but, we enjoyed the day and felt we helped give some thing back to the community and the local boys and girls. posted by Willohill on November 20, 2008 |
