American Red Cross

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. In addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs. The American Red Cross is not a government agency but a privately-funded federal instrumentality. It relies on your donations of time, money and blood to deliver lifesaving services to individuals and families living in Idaho.

Description:
When Idahoans experience disasters such as house fires, wild fires, floods, or earthquakes, the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho responds to their immediate needs. All services are provided free of charge, through the Idaho Disaster Relief Fund. There is no government funding and the Red Cross of Greater Idaho depends solely on generous contributions from citizens across our state.

History:
Last year your Idaho Chapter provided aid for 247 disasters, helping more than 808 individuals recover from house and apartment fires, flooding, wild fires, and more. Right here in your community immediate emergency housing, food for the victims and relief workers, clothing and vital disaster emotional counseling were provided for your neighbors stricken by these disasters. Volunteers are usually on the scene of the disaster before the emergency responders leave.
