Volunteers of America of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those who need our help the most—from street teens and adults battling chronic homelessness, to low-income at-risk youth and families. Our innovative programs provide a continuum of shelter, support services, and housing that uplift and empower, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective services.
Description:
Program Safe Place is a multi-service prevention and outreach program that provides immediate help and supportive resources for Kootenai County youth in crisis, including kids and teens who are: at risk of seperating from their families or becoming homeless, lacking safe transportation or after school supervision, being abused at home, struggling in school, or being bullied in school.
Project Safe Place provides crisis intervention, 24 hour help-line,drop-in center,after school activities and mentoring, nutritious meals and snacks,access to safe and caring adults,clothing banks,emergency shelter in a host home program, and outreach programs.
History:
Founded in 1999, Project Safe Place became a program of Volunteers of America on 2006. Project Safe Place relies on collaboration between organizations,businesses,government agencies, and schools where kids can go for help. The local Project Safe Place programs connect with the national "Project Safe Place" site/program that started in 1984 in Louisville,KY. This program now has Safe Place programs in over 700 communities nation wide.
