Specialized Needs Recreation Mission Statement
The purpose of Specialized Needs Recreation is to develop, operate, support and enhance programs of recreation and leisure education for children and adults in Kootenai County, Idaho, who have disabilities or other special needs. Specialized Needs Recreation will also coordinate activities and encourage closer cooperation with public and private agencies, individuals, companies and organizations.

History:
MARCH 1980, A GROUP OF CONCERNED PARENTS, FRIENDS, AND PROFESSI0NAI.S MET AND DETERMINED THAT THERE WERE AT LEAST 50 DISABLED INDIVIDUALS IN THE COEUR D' ALENE AREA. THE GROUP ALSO CONCLUDED THAT THOSE INDIVIDUALS WERE ENTITLED TO APPROPRIATE RECREATION SERVICES JUST AS THE REST OF THE POPULATION. AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE WAS FORMED, AND A FUND RAISING DRIVE STARTED.
THE ASSOCIATION WAS INCORPORATED IN 1981 AS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.
