Maggie's Place is a community that provides houses of hospitality for expectant and parenting women who wish to achieve their goals in a dignified and welcoming atmosphere. We challenge one another to strive toward personal growth, to welcome the gifts of every person that enters our door, and to promote positive social change.

Description:
Maggie's Place, The Mary House provides a welcoming, safe and loving community to women who are pregnant and or parenting and alone or on the streets. Women who are pregnant, over 18 years old, free from drugs or alcohol for 30 days, not in a current domestic violence situation, not seriously mentally ill, and with no other children in their care are eligible for the program Maggie's Place provides.

The Mary House, Maggie's Place's home in North Idaho, provides room, board, and a loving and supportive community for the guests. While at The Mary House, moms are required to be productive for at least 40 hours a week, save 70% of their income, attend regular counseling sessions, remain free from drugs and alcohol and attend parenting classes. Moms are encouraged to continue their education through GED or college classes, find stable housing and build a network of support within the community.

History:
Maggie's Place began in Phoenix with five young women who had the courage and determination to take on the founding of a non-profit, the creation of a community, and the establishment of a home. As word spread throughout the community of the project, caring and generous individuals stepped forward to provide assistance. After eighteen months of planning (including nine months of renovating an abandoned, inner-city home), Maggie's Place opened its doors to the first group of pregnant women on Mother's Day 2000.

The Mary House is the fourth addition to the Maggie's Place homes, and the first out-of-state expansion for the Arizona based organization. The Mary House opened its doors to women in October 2008 after a year of construction and preparation.
