SPAN Of North Idaho

The North Idaho Chapter of SPAN exists to promote development of a system for suicide prevention and response to threats of suicide in the five northern counties of Idaho

Description:
This is a group that meets monthly to increase knowledge about suicide and suicide prevention through education and community events. We are working on improving prevention efforts and responses to suicide threats through written resources, bibliographies of books, videos, websites and community groups, and teaching QPR ("Question-Persuade-Respond" is a national "gatekeeping" prevention model). We also focus on developing capacity to help survivors cope with their loss through support groups, resources and visiting survivors.

History:
The North Idaho Chapter of SPAN has been in existance for several years and is guided by the statewide SPAN Board of Directors. SPAN Idaho is a statewide 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing leadership for suicide prevention in Idaho. A group of interested citizens organized and incorporated an Idaho chapter of the National Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) in June 2002. Annual SPAN suicide prevention conferences have been held since 2001.
