Coeur D' Alene Tribe Early Childhood Learning Center
ECLC is committed to ensuring educational, family, health, disability and safety services that meet the needs of participating children and their families.
Description:
Our community focused program provides comprehensive developmental services in the areas of education, health, nutrition and social/emotional needs of the children, as well as provide support services for families based on their individual needs. ECLC is a composite of four early childhood programs. The first is Head Start which services children age 3 to 5 and their families. The second is Early Head Start which services pregnant mothers and child up to age 3. The third program is child care which services children age 6 weeks until school age. The fourth program is First Steps which services native children newborn to age 6 that have developmental disabilities.
History:
The ECLC started as just a Head Start program back in 1965. Prior to the construction of the facility, programs were separated physically and organizationally. Throughout those years, there were many moves into various facilities throughout the organization as well under the direction of several Tribal departments. Reorganization of the program throughout many years and in varying phases eventually culminated into a unification of all prorams under one roof. Throughout the years, ECLC has expanded from providing services to 36 children to providing services to 96 children in addition to child care services and prenatal mothers. The facility has evolved from a program located in a house to a state of the art facility providing 10 center based classrooms from infants through 5 years of age.
