First Judicial District CASA Program, Inc.

Our mission is to recruit, train, support and recognize a diverse network of dedicated Guardian ad Litem volunteers to represent abused and neglected children from the communities that we serve. Our vision is to ensure that every child in Idaho's First Judicial District lives in a safe, healthy and nurturing family environment.

Description:
When a child enters the Child Protection system, i.e. is taken out of their home because of abuse/neglect, the judge appoints CASA to speak in court in the best interest of the child. We provide a 30 hour training class to teach interested volunteers how to investigate child abuse/neglect and report to the court what they believe is in the best interest of the child. This requires both a written report and a verbal report in front of the judge. A CASA appointed to a case will follow that case (child) through the complex Child Protection system, for sometimes up to two years.

History:
The First Judicial District CASA Program, Inc. was founded and became a 501(c)3 agency in August, 1992. Our program served 675 children and trained 77 new volunteers in 2008 bringing the total number of CASA volunteers to 136.
