Volunteer Opportunity Details:

SPAN (Suicide Prevention Action Network) of North Idaho has begun planning for the Second Annual “Out of the Darkness” Community Walk for Suicide Prevention on Oct 3, 2009. Last year the event was aptly chaired by Sandi Simon from Adult Mental Health (“thank you Sandi & your crew”) and was more successful than any of us dreamed about. We raised $7,000 and over 150 people participated.

We are putting together the Walk Committees and are looking for this year’s Walk Chair who will oversee the subcommittees. Can you help? This could be an individual, dual-chair role or even an entire organization/service club/etc.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (the umbrella national organization) provides us with incredible assistance and a complete Manual that covers everything from route & insurance to logistics & promotion! One only has to follow the manual.

Profile of a Walk Chair

□ Aware and interested in the work of Suicide Prevention

□ Committed to the implementation of the Walk according to the established guidelines and procedures

□ Skilled in organizing, planning and managing

□ Knows the community’s resources

□ Has time to devote to Walk

□ Will help solicit local sponsorship

□ Will participate in pre-walk publicity and promotion
