Good News Project
The mission of the Good News Project is to provide opportunities for short term direct personal service in developing countries, to collect and ship humanitarian goods, to encourage local and West Indian services and institutions and to serve the Wausau area.
Description:
Good News organizes two week long service trips to four islands in the West Indies: St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Dominica and Grenada. Volunteers pay their own airfare and living expenses in order to help people in a developing country. Activities include small home construction, teaching in the schools, institutional development, long term development and medical clinics. Locally, Good News facilitates a computer recycling program. Customers pay 25 cents per pound to bring in their electronics and are assured that their items are recycled responsibly and confidentially. Good News also manages a local lending closet of medical items for the use of residents in north central Wisconsin. Items on loan include electric hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs, crutches and much more. Items are lent on an honor system to people who are underinsured or uninsured. We ask they they be cleaned and returned when no longer needed. Our organization is funded by the generosity of individuals and grants. We have two full time employees, one part-time Marathon County Senior Aide and thousands of donors and volunteers that make our programing possible.
