Agency Details:
Hormel Historic Home
Our mission is to preserve the history, accomplishments and values that the George A. and Lillian Hormel Family instilled in the Hormel Corporation. We honor their legacy and contributions, which enrich our lives and benefit our community.
Description:
We operate the home once owned by George Hormel when he was starting the Hormel Corporation. The home is restored to decor and furnishings of the turn of the century. We give educational tours to groups. We offer a monthly social concerns program to the public. The Home is also available to rent for events. Many clubs and organizations meet here.
History:
We started in 1927 as a YWCA. In the 1990s, we dropped the YWCA designation and began operating as the Hormel Historic Home. With that change came a focus on the history of the Home and the Hormel family. Austin Girl Scouts used to meet at the Home until 1996.
