Description:
We operate four facilities serving school-age children in after school and summer developmental programs. The Boys and Girls Club actively seeks to enrich the lives of kids that other youth agencies fail to reach and we are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s youth have greater access to life-enhancing, quality programs and services that will shape their future. After School and Summer activities are at the core of our youth development programs. Health, Life Skill, Character and Leadership, Athletic, Pro-Social, Mentoring, and Family Support programs are complimentary. The programs are structures so that youth rotate from Art, Physical Recreation, Social Recreation, and Technology by age-groupings. The After School program includes Power Learning - a tutoring/homework assistance activity to assist kids catch-up and keep-up in their assigned school work. Power Learning is the program we are proposing to expand and strengthen. Special developmental programs are available for enrollment on a schedule throughout the year. SMART Moves, an age-appropriate training assists youth set goals and resist peer pressures to use drugs and alcohol. Pro-social youth clubs and activities give kids opportunities for positive associations as alternatives to gangs. Health Habits assists kids to make good food choices and combat the trend towards obesity and Money Matters helps kids understand the importance of savings and goal setting. The BGC Family Support project is a model outreach and referral program for families in-need. The BECOME A STAR mentoring project for children with incarcerated parents matches high risk children with mentors. The BGC sponsors Athletic programs that served over 1,200 youth in basketball, football, volleyball and cheerleading.
